A white peyote panel framed by chrome bead lines at the nose bridge and the chin, with four letter beads across the mouth. Weave it on fishing line so it holds its shape, leave it flat, and add 1 mm elastic ear straps last. Keep the tension even — this is the piece that gets photographed.

- Weave the panel on fishing line — it has to hold its shape. The length below is the panel only; add about 6 in (15 cm) of 1 mm stretch cord per ear strap.
- Cord length already includes about 20% slack. Cut long, trim after you tie off.

A mask panel has to hold its own shape. Elastic lets it sag against your mouth; monofilament does not.

BeadTinabout 6 in (15 cm) per ear strap
The default cord on this site — every cord length in every bead count assumes 1mm. One spool is dozens of singles or a handful of cuffs before you reorder.

How to make it
- 1Cut the lineCut 600 cm (236 in) of fishing line for the panel. Fishing line is what holds the shape — keep the 1 mm stretch cord aside for the ear straps.
- 2String rows 1 and 2 togetherThe first two rows go on in a single pass — 50 beads straight onto the line. They separate as soon as you add row 3.
- 3Drop every new row into the gapsAdd a bead, skip a bead on the row below, pass through the next. Keep the tension easy: the spacing between beads is the airflow. Carry on to the top — 11 rows.
- 4Leave the panel flat and slightly bowedDo not bring the ends together and do not zip it into a cuff. Ease the top and bottom rows so the panel bows outward instead of pressing against your lips.
- 5Add the ear strapsAnchor 1 mm stretch cord at the top corners, about three rows down from the edge, and again at the bottom corners. Roughly 6 in (15 cm) per strap. Try it on before you trim.
- 6Tie it offKnot the working line against an edge bead, weave both tails back through a few beads, and trim. A dab of clear glue on the knot is optional.
